The McGann Era

Review

Well, that didn't take long did it? McGann confined to a single story on television after from what can be considered a very promising start personally. He was by far the best thing about the only TV story he appeared in, and it really is a crying shame he hasn't done a regeneration scene to end his tenure.

I am sure I am not alone in the belief that a full-blown BBC series featuring McGann as the Doctor would have been great. This would certainly have satisfied many of us that without the Americanisms McGann would have made a truly memorable Doctor. Unfortunately the facts are that due to circumstances beyond the control of Paul McGann, his on-screen role was curtailed somewhat. The abortive attempt to bring Doctor Who back into the mainstream in 1996 will be long debated and discussed, but what I know for sure is that I am glad he has gone on to reprise his role in subsequent audio adventures, something I honestly didn't expect.
