Attack of the Graske

Review

Attack of the Graske marks a venture into new media to a certain degree for the BBC and Doctor Who in particular. Doctor Who has always been at the forefront of the BBC's experimentation into new techniques from different production techniques such a slit-scan in the 70's to internet streaming first used in the audio adventure Death Comes to Time. Attack of the Graske was broadcast on BBCi via the red button on digital TV services after the Christmas Invasion in 2005 and it's repeat on new years day 2006.

Attack of the Graske has the Doctor welcoming the viewer on board the TARDIS for an adventure while Rose is off with her Mother. What we are then presented with is a series of observation and logic challenges where you have to select the correct answer from a list. The Doctor then provides linking narration to the next challenge. Essentially, the story is that an alien race is replacing Humans and transporting them off for processing and we have to stop it.

Attack of the Graske was a welcome addition to the armoury of potential sources of Doctor Who enjoyment. We have new audio adventures, old stories and new books and television adventures to gorge ourselves on but the possibilities that interactive digital media services provide was essentially the avenue the BBC were exploring by producing Attack of the Graske. This is to be heartily commended, and it is a pleasant enough way to spend a few minutes if you ever get the chance to.
